Working with Mailspect Email Archives

As our customers email archives grow we are increasingly being asked how to manage the archives. To that end we have created many features to move, export and import archives.

The recommended way to move or change the formats of Mailspect email archives is to export to .eml files and re-import using a journal account. What is a journal account you may ask? Microsoft Exchange and other email servers have journal features that will copy all email to ab email address. The email is encapsulated in a journal format that preserves all original SMTP headers and send to the appropriate address.

In the export process MPP manager will store all emails in a series of directories. Make sure you have sufficient storage before doing this! You can configure how many emails to store in each directory and MPP Manager will create the appropriate number of subdirectories.

We have added support in MPP Manager 1.6.13 for old style MPP databases, aka, SQL version 3_2. We recommend that any old SQL users out there migrate asap to our newer SQL formats.

To re-import MPP Manager will encapsulate each email in an Exchange 07 journal envelope and send the complete journal message via smtp to an email address. MPP is configured to handle all email to this address and archive, but also to decode the Exchange 07 journal envelope. After MPP receives the messages it strips the envelope, processes the message and archives in a new DB/format.

We ONLY support metadata storage of email (metadata in mysql, email on filesystem), btw. Do not attempt to store full emails in the MySQL database or you will have significant problems.
