 MPP Email Archive FAQ
Solution What are the components of an MPP Email Archive Solution?
Archive Agent,  Email Stream Manager,  Access Server and Message Store.   The agent (email server, IMAP server, etc) sends email to the ESM for processing.  The ESM then processes the email and stores it in the message store.  Archives are accessed via the access server.

How does the MPP Email Archive Virtual Appliance work in this architecture?
The MPP Virtual Machine is is the Email Stream Manager and Access Server.   It's job is to process messages that are sent to it and store them on your message store.  The MPP VM has an integrated web application that serves as the access server to the email archives.

Do I have to install any software on my email server to send archives to MPP?
NO.   In most cases it is not necessary to install any software on the archive agent.  Most email systems support some type of journaling or always_bcc functionality and MPP supports most common formats including MS Exchange 03 and 07, Salix, Postfix SMTP journaling and many other journal formats.

How do I archive in real time?
Send email to the MPP VM using journaling.   There are default journal addresses in the MPP VM to send email to.

How do I import email?
MPP can import email from virtually any format.  We import directly from any IMAP server and any standard mbox or eml file.  MPP can convert PST's, Apple Mail and over 20 other formats into standard mbox format for import.  Import jobs can be scheduled to run in 'batch mode'.

How do I authenticate users?
MPP can authenticate via IMAP, POP, PASSWD, LDAP or Active Directory.   No need to create users in MPP in most cases, unless you need to define a domain administrator or special access for a user.
